Store updates and upcoming events
Welcome back to another Tuesday blog,
This month we have a couple of events coming up as you’ve probably already seen on our calendar page. If you aren’t aware, we have our annual sidewalk sale from July 16 until July 19. That means every item we have on our tables, marked with and orange sticker, will be 50% off. That’s right. 50% percent off, that’s your opportunity to get some pretty cool items at a great price.
We also have our monthly game day coming up. It will be held on July 27th from Noon-4 so don’t miss the opportunity to hang out with some cool people and play some fun games.
In other news, we have been discussing hosting Magic the Gathering events at our store. If there is any interest or suggestions on this, feel free to reach out to us via our email link at the bottom of this page, calling the store, or DMing us on Facebook or Instagram.
That’s all the news for this week, thank you all for reading and we looking forward to seeing and hearing from you.
We had a jigsaw puzzle competition!
Just in case any of our readers didn’t know, we hold an annual jigsaw puzzle competition at Rochesterfest. We had enough puzzles for 30 teams of 4 and we filled every single slot. We love holding this competition and seeing the community come together to make Rochesterfest memorable every year. Each team had an hour to finish a unique 500 piece puzzle but some of them didn’t even need half of that time. That’s how amazing our competitors are. If you think you can keep up with these puzzle masters, come join us next year!
If you hadn’t noticed, there has many changes to our website in recent weeks. We work hard to make our blog posts interesting to read and make our website compelling to visit. Expect more changes in the future, including changes to the homepage and more puzzles being added to our online catalogue. We hope you’re as excited as we are!
Thanks again to all of our readers and we’ll see you all in the next post!

Boss Monster vs Super Boss Monster
Welcome back to another blog,
Last game day, someone brought Super Boss Monster. Super Boss Monster was released about a month ago and I’ve always loved Boss Monster. What’s the difference? Let’s go over it together.
Super Boss Monster introduces a new drafting system to the game that allows the players to have a little more control over what cards are added to their hand. Players will build their dungeons as usual but this drafting system makes it easier to tailor your dungeon and get a good engine going.
Super Boss Monster also includes a board, representing the town, to place your heroes on. This board will have a fixed number of slots before any overflow heroes have to be placed in one of 5 locations. (Temple, Stadium, Library, Hideout, or Tavern) Each location will have spaces to place your minion in order to gain bonus abilities. (Given there isn’t a hero at the location)
Super Boss Monster also introduces Minions to the game, as mentioned above. Minions can be placed at the different locations to give you one of the two different actions it offers, with the exception of the Tavern which you can only play your Minion of if there is a hero there. If there is a hero at any given location, you can still place your minion at that location to give that hero more health and send them to any dungeon.
Last but certainly not least, Super Boss Monster has capability for solo play and is backwards compatible with the original game.
Aside from new monsters, rooms, and spells I believe those are all the differences between Boss Monster and Super Boss Monster.
Which is better?
Personally I prefer Super Boss Monster for it’s action economy and potential for for consistent synergies. It also feels like it was more designed to feel like there’s more strategy to it for us strategy gamers.
If it’s that good, why would anyone still buy the Original Boss Monster?
As I said before, Super Boss Monster feels like a Euro game with more strategy and more opportunities to interact with the other players’ dungeons. However, with more interesting mechanics and strategy comes more complications and potentially longer turns thus longer games, even though Super Boss Monster says the play time is the same as the original. To answer the original question, the original Boss Monster still holds up if you’re looking for a more linear game without all of the extra strategy and possible complications to the game.
Overall, I enjoyed Super Boss Monster and will recommend to the owner that we carry it.
Thank you all for reading to the end of this, longer than usual, blog. We will be back next week with more and, as always, thanks for reading!

What's new around here?
Another Tuesday, another blog,
This week, we got a full restock on Tavern puzzles. Those iron puzzles are always fun to struggle with. Although it seems like most of the time we’ll solve them on accident and them have no idea how to get the ring back on but hey, that’s all part of the fun. There is also now a new edition of Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza called Poolside and it’s exactly how it sounds. If you’re worried about bringing your favorite Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza to the pool or beach, this edition is made with plastic so it’s waterproof and durable.
Pokémon players, we still have packs of Twilight Masquerade, Paldean Fates and Journey Together!
Magic players, Tarkir Dragonstorm has officially been released and on opening day we were out of collector’s packs, (crazy!) but we still have plenty of play boosters for you to choose from.
Last but not least, game day is officially 12 days away and we are excited to play games with all of you so if you didn’t know already it is on Sunday April 27th from Noon to 4. Come on down and have some fun.
That’s all for today and, as always, thanks for reading!
New Display, TCG Updates & Game Day
Welcome back blog readers,
We appreciate the time you all put in to visiting our website and reading our blog. We always strive to bring joy to everyone we interact with.
Recently we put together a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle titled “At the Birdbath”. I’m sure you can imagine what that entails. We have it displayed on the shelf to the right when you walk in. It’s color and vibrancy leaves us with anticipation for the newer season because I’m sure that, by now, we’re all ready to put away our coats for the next few months.
We still have Pokémon packs of Journey Together, Twilight Masquerade, and Paldean Fates. If you’re still looking to get your fix, come on down and pick some up today. Magic the Gathering players, Tarkir Dragonstorm comes out on Friday and we will be carrying it so stop on by.
We’re less than 3 weeks away from our game day. We are excited to have you.
Let’s have a discussion in the comments. What games are you planning on bringing to our game day? What other events would you like to see in store? We’re open to all suggestions.
We look forward to hearing from you! Until next time, have a great week and thank you for reading.
Blog update, Game days, and more
We are back with a sincere apologies to our blog readers. We parted ways with our last blogger but now we have a new one. Going forward, we would love to keep all of you guys updated on a more regular basis with what’s going on in the store. In accordance with this goal, we will be posting on our social media and blog every Monday/Tuesday. Follow the links at the bottom to find our Facebook and Instagram and click follow so you don’t miss a post.
In other news, we’d like to announce that our monthly game days are back at our store. The first one in this new era will be on April 27th from Noon to 4 PM. I recall in the past that we had a problem where, when we got hungry, there would be nowhere to eat so this time around we’ve talked to R’s Pizza down the hall and they’ve agreed to open up for a short time during our event. We look forward to playing games and meeting all of you.
Pokémon players, we have packs of Journey Together, Twilight Masquerade and Paldean Fates. Unfortunately we are still out of stock on ETBs. Come and get some packs while they’re still here.
That’s all for today, we’ll catch you in our next post. Thanks for reading!
March Game Day Announced!
March game day will be held on the 31st!
Our March Game Day will take place on the 31st of this month, at our location downtown, from noon to five - hopefully by then we’ll be free from another winter storm cancellation! Always free, and always fun!
Werewolf legacy is still ongoing, as well as anything else the group would like to play! Pandemic: Cthulhu may be on tap as well, for fans of Lovecraft or the Pandemic series.
We can’t wait to see you all again soon!
February Game Day
Unfortunately the Game Day scheduled for February 24th had to be cancelled, on account of the snow-pocalypse. We hope everyone stayed safe and warm over the weekend - We will announce the upcoming Game Day soon, so stay tuned!
Massive Puzzle Restock!
We’re happy to announce that our 2019 puzzles have finally made it through the winter storms, and are finding their way onto our shelves. We’re now overflowing with Ravensburger, Springbok, Eurographics and Masterpiece puzzles - including a whole heap of brand new 2019 images!
We’re also trying out some new products, including Masterpiece’s Peel & Stick puzzle glue sheets, for a potentially less laborious puzzle-gluing experience.
Thank you for your patience as we waited on these shipments!
